HIGH LINE COMMISSIONS are temporary, site-specific artworks that provide a unique experience and introduce innovative works by contemporary artists to a broad audience. Carol Bove Caterpillar Through May 2014 A series of large-scale sculptures punctuate the wild, untouched landscape of the High Line at the Rail Yards. *By advance reservation only. Busted Through April 2014 Featuring John Ahearn, Frank Benson, Steven Claydon, George Condo, Mark Grotjahn, Sean Landers, Goshka Macuga, Ruby Neri, Amalia Pica, and Andra Ursuta A group of figurative sculptures plays with the tradition of urban monuments and civic busts. El Anatsui Broken Bridge II Through September 30 The artist’s largest outdoor work to date, Broken Bridge II consists of recycled pressed tin and mirrors, which hangs on an outdoor wall adjacent to the park. HIGH LINE BILLBOARD is a series of art installations presented on the giant billboard next to the High Line at 10th Avenue at West 18th Street. Gilbert & George Waking September 3–October 1 An image populated by young men representing the primal life forces at their most formative stages. HIGH LINE CHANNEL is an outdoor video program in two locations. High Line Channel 14 in the 14th Street Passage and High Line Channel 22 on the High Line at West 22nd Street. Adrian Paci Selected Works Through October 9 High Line Channel 14 A series of videos including The Encounter (2011), PilgrIMAGE (2005), and Turn On (2004). Solar Featuring Rosa Barba, Neïl Beloufa, Camille Henrot, and Basim Magdy October 10–December 4 High Line Channel 14 Recent video works that explore the spectacle of nature. Presented as part of Marfa Dialogues/NY, an examination of climate change science, environmental activism, and artistic practice taking place in October and November 2013 in New York City. Roman Signer Kayak October 10–December 4 High Line Channel 22 A look at what happens when a kayak takes to land. Haris Epaminonda Nemesis 52 December 5, 2013–January 29, 2014 High Line Channel 22 Familiar-looking objects continuously transform into otherworldly and hybrid forms. HIGH LINE ART PERFORMANCES is a series that transforms the park into an open-air theater with performances taking place on and around the High Line. Pablo Bronstein Intermezzo: Two Girls Wear Fashion Garments on a Palm Tree September 19, 7pm Two ballerinas perform atop a 20-foot high palm tree. HIGH LINE ART Presented by Friends of the High Line, High Line Art commissions and produces public art projects on and around the High Line. Founded in 2009, High Line Art presents a wide array of artwork including site-specific commissions, exhibitions, performances, video programs, and a series of billboard interventions. Curated by Cecilia Alemani, the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Curator & Director of High Line Art, and produced by Friends of the High Line, High Line Art invites artists to think of creative ways to engage with the uniqueness of the architecture, history, and design of the High Line and to foster a productive dialogue with the surrounding neighborhood and urban landscape. | ||
